THE BRIEF
Our customer asked us to design a contemporary shaker style kitchen for their extended home, with lots of clever storage, a kitchen island and built-in bench seating in their dining area to coordinate with the kitchen itself. They were looking for the perfect green so colour matching was key for this brief.
THE SOLUTION AND KEY DESIGN FEATURES
We maximised the storage in this kitchen by incorporating a breakfast station with pocket doors, a corner larder and full height cabinetry throughout. Integrated appliances give a streamlined finish and the waterfall end to the island worktop adds a wow factor.
To create interest, we used a slatted panel behind the sink, colour matched to the cabinetry, and incorporated a simple shelf above with integrated task lighting, to accommodate cookery books and pretty kitchen paraphernalia.
We designed pull-out storage in the island to hold our customer’s cooking utensils in order to keep the island clutter-free and, the pièce de résistance, access to their utility room via a hidden door, incorporated within the cabinetry. This means the flow of the kitchen units isn’t broken up with a single door, instead you would never know the utility room existed!
At the opposite end of the kitchen we designed and built banquet seating, to create a dining area in an existing glazed alcove space. The cabinetry is a modern shaker style to match the kitchen and incorporates useful drawer storage throughout.
All spray finished in ‘Eddy’ by Farrow & Ball, which turned out to be that perfect shade of green - colour-matched by our specialists and sprayed by hand in our Bunny workshop, to give a durable smooth finish to the cabinetry.
TOP TIPS
Keep the space streamlined by hiding doors to a pantry or utility area using additional cabinetry or a pocket door. In this design we also incorporated a noticeboard and filing space for life paraphernalia within the cabinet, which opens up to the utility room beyond.
