The Brief

This couple from Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire wanted to update and modernise their current kitchen which had a definite 80’s feel to it. The brief was for a contemporary kitchen with traditional elements. They wanted low height wall units so they could see the coving. They also wanted space for 4 people to sit/dine at table height, they didn’t want a breakfast bar.

The Solution

The customers choose the Fine Finish Bespoke Bradmore in Frame cabinets in classic white. The previous kitchen was very angular so curves were introduced on the corner of all the units to soften the look. There is an inverted curve on the units near where the table and chairs are so the table sits snugly and integrated within the overall design of the kitchen. The table and chairs are moveable and made by Fine Finish as part of the overall kitchen project.

A mantel was built to house the range cooker, this gives a great contemporary/traditional feature within the kitchen that wasn’t there before. The cooker was also moved from one side of the kitchen to the other.

The worktops are steel grey honed granite. Honed granite has a matt, smooth texture rather than a polished surface. The sink is top mounted, it is a Schock Lotus 1.5 bowl sink in Silverstone. The taps are Clearwater Alzira brushed nickel and the door and cupboard handles are Second Nature bar handles in black satin effect finish.

The kitchen has a number of storage solutions including an oak cutlery drawer with Fine Finish Furniture bespoke spice storage. There is a Kessebohmer La Mans corner pull out unit and Fine Finish Furniture drawers in the tall larder cupboard.

Warm white under cabinet spot lighting completes the kitchen.

Key Design Features

The cupboard doors on the large larder cupboard were replaced with matching kitchen doors, these now look part of the overall design and are much sleeker and smoother. The curved end units make the kitchen softer, less angular and give a more fluid end to each bank of units.

This customer liked granite but didn’t want a polished surface, hence the honed granite which they had never heard of before.
