The Brief

The brief for this kitchen was slightly unusual in that the detached house was the old family home that had been collectively inherited by all remaining family members. The family decided to completely modernise and extend the large detached house, in Beeston, so that they could use it as a base to run their business from and it could be somewhere all the family could meet. The space was to be used by lots of family members, at different times. The customer wanted the kitchen to be zoned and it needed to have space for entertaining.

The Solution

The customers chose the Fine Finish exclusive shaker style, Newton In Frame range of kitchen units. The Newton In Frame is a contemporary take on the traditional shaker style kitchen, and includes traditional butt hinges.

The units are a mixture of Farrow and Ball Lime White and Farrow and Ball Incharya Blue. The worktops and splash backs are 30mm colonial white granite and the seating area of the island is 40mm full stave oak. The splashback behind the hob is Incharya Blue Glass, the same colour as the island. Fine Finish supplied, coloured and fitted the Splashback. The kitchen has a mixture of cup door handles and doorknobs, all of which are Ambrose, polished nickel.

The kitchen has two under mounted stainless steel sinks; the one on the main run of units is a double bowl sink with Perrin and Rowe polished nickel taps. The island has a single bowl under mounted stainless steel sink with a Perrin and Rowe hot water tap.

Key Design Features

This is a very large space so zoning of the areas was really important. There is a large island with seating, built in wine cooler and contrasting worktops, a more formal dining area and then a more relaxed seating area.

A wine rack has been built from floor to ceiling down the side of the fridge. This stores quite a few bottles of wine and is great detailing.

Top Tip

The floating shelves on the wall are designed to break down the space between the kitchen and dining areas. The size of the shelves has been determined using the golden ratio to emphasis the linear look of the main run of units and to connect the kitchen with the more social parts of the space. These shelves also have lovely, warm LED strip lighting detail.
